I want Haywood County to thrive, but I see us getting mired in partisanship where local elections don't even talk about the issues that concern us. I am running to become commissioner by talking with the people, and working on issues that matter.
We need to ensure that tax revenue from tourism is used to make the lives of residents better. I propose working with state official to raise our occupancy tax to the level of surrounding counties, and making it possible to use that money for things like education, parks and recreation, and other things that make our lives better.
Our county commissioners need to spend more time working on issues that will make our lives better. They need to be actively attracting good-paying jobs, helping fund and develop school to career pipelines, working on affordable housing, and trying to find solutions to the lack of childcare in our county.
We need to both preserve our farmland and make sure that farming is a viable option for future generations. We must stand against mass development and for intentional development that balances our need for housing with our need for farms.
Have questions or suggestions? I would love to hear from you!
